When an emergency interrupts this routine, they may become\u00a0anxious, confused, or frightened. These feelings may be expressed in a variety of ways: from\u00a0clinginess\u00a0to\u00a0withdrawal; increased\u00a0shyness\u00a0to\u00a0aggressiveness. Your child may return to previously outgrown behaviors such as\u00a0thumb-sucking\u00a0or carrying a cuddly toy.<\/p>\n<p><b>What to Do<\/b><\/p>\n<p>When the danger has passed, concentrate on your child&#8217;s emotional needs by asking what&#8217;s on his or her mind. Having children participate in your family&#8217;s recovery activities will help them feel that life will soon return to \u00abnormal.\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>During their recovery, prevent young children from viewing television news reports of the event.
